I am still getting used to the difference in weather here in North Carolina, and it is sure different from Michigan. It is now early November and it was 82° and sunny so I was able to take a few photos of some of the new scenic elements I have been making outdoors. It is hard to beat natural light when photographing models, but normally I would have to hope for dry weather and dress warmly to do this in Michigan in November.
These small oblong 4” X 7” scenic elements are made hand-made from a combination of natural and synthetic materials and were designed to be used in models ranging from 1/35th to 1/30th scale although, I suppose they would be good for 1/24th scale models too.

I have built a little over 40 of these between other projects I am working on and hope to add a few more variations in colors and plant types in the near future. I thought is was interesting how the gentle wind we had today made the scenics move while I was photographing them making them almost alive so I attached a short video showing the movement on the one with wildflowers and Queen Anne’s lace.
I also feel that the backdrop I painted for the background of the woodland diorama is about finished so decided to take a photo in natural sunlight so I could print a copy out on our art printer.

We were really happy with the results and I used a print as a backdrop while photographing some of the scenics, including the wildflowers base pictured here. I hope you enjoy these…
